Our Green School Initiative

Since becoming a nationally recognized Maryland Green School in 2014, the Riderwood School community has continued to foster a culture that develops environmental literacy, reduces environmental impact, and promotes sustainability innovations and actions.

The Riderwood Green Team is a voluntary organization of 3rd-5th graders environmental ambassadors who are passionate about developing conservation programs and educating the school community about Riderwood’s green school initiatives.  The Green Team has made monumental environmental changes in the school including our Take Back the Tap campaign and Trash Free Tuesdays.  Younger students have the opportunity to become involved and learn more about the environment at quarterly Nature Club meetings.  Students participate in hands-on science activities, games, and literary experiences.

A walk around the school grounds is testament to our commitment to nourishing a green community.  Take time to explore our “Kinder Garden” nature trail marked by native plants, outdoor classroom, and fenced in garden area.  Please notify Dana Levitt [email protected] or Stephanie Gisriel [email protected] to learn more about Riderwood’s Green School programs.
