Fifth graders are selected to be bus or crosswalk "safeties." These commendable students are divided into three groups depending on their availability for active duty. The number one group is the safety patrol which has approximately 30 members and carries the most responsibility in the safety program. They serve 20 minutes before or after school at bus crossings, wall and barricade posts, and inside halls. The students' schedules are rotated on a biweekly basis. The students are walkers, playcenter students, or bus riders who have made arrangements with their parents to be at school for their assigned times. The ground patrol consists of students who are bus riders and must leave when their buses are called. They cover first grade doors, and fourth grade doors. Finally, we have the bus safety pratrol. These students are responsible for maintaining an orderly line of students in the main hall who are waiting to board the buses. The level of responsibility on the bus is directly dependent upon the requirements of each bus driver. We are very proud of our safety patrol at Riderwood. The student safeties are our leaders and are responsible for our entire student body. |
