Physical Education

The physical education program at Riderwood is based on the curriculum guidelines used throughout the Baltimore County Public Schools. There are four content areas that include: fundamental movement, rhythm and dance; activities, game, and sports; tumbling; and fitness and conditioning.

Our program focuses on individual skill development through the use of planned, sequential activities. Students are encouraged to participate in a variety of activities to discover the challenges and successes that help to build self-confidence while learning an appreciation of performance because of first hand experience.

Special programs and opportunities are made available to the Riderwood students. These enrichment programs include, but are not limited to: bicycle safety and riding, table tennis, Jump Rope For Heart, an after-school jogging/racing opportunity, turkey trot, and a variety of club activities to challenge specific skills.

The Values Education program is continuously incorporated into the regular physical education program, thus fostering an accepting and supportive learning environment.

In December 2001 a climbing wall was installed in the gym. The "L" shaped wall includes a 20 foot vertical climb.
