Our very own Mr. Hallett has
been involved with the Education Channel for 15 years. This recent
character, The Red Reader, encouraged children to make reading an integral
part of their day.
The Riderwood Library Media Program exists to ensure that all students and staff are effective users of information and have open access to a variety of materials and services, which support school goals. Students learn to use library resources for information and retrieval, independent research, and literature appreciation through a sequential program based upon the Baltimore County Library Media Curricular Framework PreK-12. Weekly library media lessons are integrated with the classroom curriculum and utilize cooperative learning and critical and creative thinking. Quality children's literature is selected according to the Baltimore County Selection Policy and Collection Development Program. Students receive reading guidance during library periods and are encouraged to use the library frequently as individuals and small groups. Students utilize computers in the library media center for research (Internet, CD-ROM Encyclopedias, atlases, etc.), telecommunications, reading enrichment, creating word processing documents, and graphic projects. An in-house TV studio is utilized daily for morning announcements and for student and teacher educational productions. |
